Masters of the Universe: Revelation is here, but it’s not what most of us have been waiting for

Masters of the Universe: Revelation

Kevin Smith’s new Masters of the Universe series for Netflix has failed to entirely satisfy fans of the original animated series

Finally, the time that many 1980s kids, now adults, have been waiting for has arrived! We all waited for the return of Masters of the Universe for many years; now, the series has returned to our screens, this time via Netflix and with one of the greatest geek masters at the helm as creator and screenwriter, Kevin Smith.

For many, Masters of the Universe: Revelation has been a fantastic opportunity to travel back in time, but it hasn’t been what we expected. Perhaps we set the bar too high because of our great hopes for the series’ premiere, but the end product was not what we expected.

A victim of review-bombing

The main issue with Masters of the Universe: Revelation isn’t that fans disliked the saga, but that there are a lot of fans and active users on review sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb who have set out to give the series negative ratings. This could mean that we won’t see a new season of the series.

At the time of writing, the series has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 33% on IMDb. Much criticism has been leveled at the lack of He-Man and other features that have been altered to adapt to modern generations. For the time being, Kevin Smith has not issued a statement, but it is striking to see how what the specialized press praised about Master of The Universe: Revelation, specifically the fact of attempting to make a separate series without looking like a remake of the 1980s, has managed to enrage its target audience so much.
