Metroidvania Afterimage fully funded on Kickstarter

Indie developer Aurogon Shanghai today announced that its hand-drawn 2D action-adventure Afterimage is now fully funded.

“Surpassing the initial funding target in just 40 hours, the Afterimage Kickstarter campaign is now over 260% funded with more than 1,100 backers in one week,” the studio says.

The studio says that they will continue to reveal new stretch goals, adding more content and features to the game. The current stretch goal is for a New Game+ mode. The Kickstarter campaign has raised over $46k so far.

Afterimage draws inspiration from legendary Metroidvania games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Ori and the Blind Forest. The game takes place in the imaginative world of Engardin. Once a magnificent realm of magical life and fantastic beasts, the land has been ravaged by the folly of human ambition and warfare.

Players will “embark on a journey as Renee, a girl who lost her memory during the great catastrophe, as she retraces her steps to uncover past memories. Explore vast interconnected areas, traverse complex platform puzzles, and encounter amusing characters that may help or hinder Renee’s journey.”

Afterimage is available to back on Kickstarter until April 21. The playable demo is now available on Steam. It is coming to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in winter 2022.
