Who said that Xbox 360 would never get Blu-Ray? Despite originally backing the (now failed) HD-DVD format, Microsoft appears ready to support their chief rival’s format in the console business. The company’s CEO, Steve Ballmer, let it slip during an interview with Gizmodo. “Well I don’t know if we need to put Blu-ray in there – you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives, you’ll get Blu-ray drives as accessories,” Ballmer said, adding that he believes the future of media is on-demand.

While it is certainly possible that Ballmer might have misspoke (it does happen), Microsoft did not outright deny it, either. “Our immediate solution for Blu-ray-quality video on an Xbox 360 is coming this fall with Zune Video and 1080p instant-on HD streaming. As far as our future plans are concerned, we’re not ready to comment,” they told Gizmodo after the interview. You can watch the video below and decide for yourself:
