Mixer helping to raise funds for Australian wildfire relief

The Microsoft-owned streaming platform Mixer is helping to raise relief funds as Australia battles historic fires.

The wildfires have been devastating, covering 15.6 million acres across the continent. Air quality has plummetted, 28 people have died, and an estimated 1 billion animals have also been killed. The fires cover an area twice the size of the fires that ravaged swaths of Brazil’s Amazon rain forest.

Mixer is encouraging content creators and community members to donate funds through GlobalGiving.org:

According to GlobalGiving.org, all donations will “support relief and recovery efforts for people and animals affected by the bushfires. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter.”

“The fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the region. We monitor the impact on affected communities and work with partners on the ground to allocate funds to where they’re needed most,” the organization adds.
