Naughty Dog is planning a new format of video game production that may fit perfectly with fans of the studio.
Each of Naughty Dog’s games feels like they are much more than a video game. Each of the stories, and how they are structured, make players connect with them in a big way. But, this flagship Naughty Dog format is becoming very common in the industry. Therefore, it’s time to change things up a bit.
This is what Neil Druckmann told us in an interview for the New Yorker. Naughty Dog’s big game director has revealed that they have a game in production that will follow a new format: one structured like a TV show. Druckmann even assures us that gamers are not prepared for this.
An eye-catching new Naughty Dog project
We have seen great adaptations of video games to TV series (and some very bad). A very present one is HBO’s The Last of Us which will be released in January 2023. But, those games that have sought to adapt TV series or movies to video games have not had great success. They are two formats that if not done in the right way will not provide good results.
That’s why Neil Druckmann’s new statements have caused something of a stir in the industry. In a New Yorker profile, the creative director and co-president of Naughty Dog has revealed that they have a new project under production. But what’s surprising about this is that Druckmann has commented that this next game will be “structured more like a TV show.”
Although no further information has been revealed about the game, it will be something different from what we are used to from Naughty Dog. Still, we don’t know if it will be a continuation of the studio’s sagas or if it will be a new IP. However, we think that this new production has nothing related to the announced multiplayer universe of The Last of Us announced in February this year.
Whatever it is, it’s good to see that developers as big as Naughty Dog are still betting on new things. What we can confirm is that knowing the development studio, players will get a great game that will give us a lot to talk about.
