October, 6 2009 is a day that many sports gamers have been waiting for all year. While that is getting to be a clichéd statement here at Game Freaks 365 with this year’s great sports offerings, it doesn’t make the release of NBA 2k10 any less important. With EA’s NBA Live 10 release coinciding with 2K10, and looking better than ever, developer 2K Sports has their work cut out for them.

The already winning formula used in past 2K iterations has only improved for this year’s title. One of the major additions is NBA Today, which adds commentary to games being played on the console about games that were played on the real court on a previous night. Another new feature that many fans of the franchise have been salivating for since it’s inception on the next gen systems is Signature Play. This allows the player to not only play as their favorite NBA star, but to have that in-game avatar play just like the real world counterpart.

Many other additions have made their way into the final game, such as an all new innovative control system, perfected defensive controls, and a deep create-a-player mode that is well on it’s way to surpassing every sports game player-creator to date. Gamers have already gotten a taste of this with the NBA 2K10 Draft Combine and 2K Sports has promised that the full retail copy will deliver much more realism and customization than the downloaded draft prospect creator. With both minor and major tweaks to season modes, and overall gameplay, NBA 2K10 could very well become the most realistic professional basketball sim in existence, even though it is notorious for being the more arcade-y of the two entities.

There are sports games for pretty much every niche in the industry. We as gamers demand the best entertainment for our 60 bucks, and while competition may be fierce, we will likely go with the hands-down best title. The team at 2K Sports understands this simple fact of economy, and have driven themselves to give both casual and hardcore sports gamers the best basketball game money can buy. Will this effort pay off? See for yourself when NBA 2K10 drops October 6.
