Netflix ending support for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U

Netflix

The video streaming giant Netflix is discontinuing service on two Nintendo platforms: the 3DS and Wii U.

According to a Nintendo customer support page, the service ends on June 30, 2021:

The Netflix app was removed from Nintendo eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Family systems on Dec 31st, 2020. They are no longer available for new users to download. It is possible for existing users to re-download these applications at this time. Service for both applications will be discontinued on June 30th, 2021. Thank you for your support of these applications over the years.

My Take

It’s not terribly surprising to see Netflix end support for older platforms. The Nintendo 3DS first came out back in 2011, so it’s almost ten years old now. It was officially discontinued last September. Meanwhile, the Wii U has been dead for years.
