New Nintendo Switch has up to 9-hour battery life

There’s a new Nintendo Switch model out that has significantly longer battery life than the original model.

The new model offers a battery life of between 4.5 to 9 hours, depending on the game being played. Nintendo uses The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as an example, which it says can be played for 5.5 hours on the improved system.

This compares to the original Nintendo Switch model, which ranged in battery life from 2.5 to 6.5 hours depending on the game. That’s a pretty significant improvement, and it won’t cost consumers any more money.

You’ll want to look out for model number HAC-001(-01) and a product serial number beginning with XKW when you shop for a Switch. That’s the model with the extended battery life.

This model is in addition to the recently-announced Nintendo Switch Lite, a handheld-only version of the popular system. The Switch Lite will retail for $199, but it lacks the ability to dock and connect with a television.
