New Releases | January 2015 – “What Are Ya Buyin’??”

Now that the holidays are over and we have officially kicked off a new calendar year, all the buzz from the crazy shopping season and annual end-of-the-year reflection is beginning to quiet down.

November Games - RE4 Merchant

The first few months of any new year are generally slow for new game releases, but January 2015 looks to continue right along with the most popular trend from last year: new, remastered PS4 & XB1 versions of previously-released PS3 & Xbox 360 games.

So, I’ll ask the obligatory question, “What Are Ya Buyin’??”

Not-So-Classic HD Remasters

Grand Theft Auto V - PC 1

January 20 – Saint’s Row IV: Re-Elected | PS4, XB1

There has not been a new installment for a while, but Saint’s Row IV is nonetheless headed to the PS4 and Xbox One this month. The remastered version on PS4 & XB1 will feature all previously-released content for Saint’s Row IV, as well as the latest expansion, Gat Out of Hell. This latest expansion will launch separately on last-gen consoles the same day, in case you were wondering.

January 27 – Grand Theft Auto V | PC

The enhanced version of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V that was released on PS4 & XB1 (shown above) is finally making its way to PC near the end of the month. PC players can expect all the same new features from the remastered version of GTA V, including the exciting new first-person mode, vehicles, weapons, and side-missions.

Actual Classic HD Remasters

Resident Evil HD Remaster - 1

January 20 – Resident Evil HD | PC, PS3, PS4, 360, XB1

Capcom is bringing back the very first Resident Evil in high-definition glory later this month. This remastered version (see image above) looks to build from the previously-released Gamecube re-make, which introduced terrifying new Crimson Head zombies and more. This could be the best RE title in the past several years, which says a lot about the current state of the franchise.

January 27 – Grim Fandango: Remastered | PC, PS4, PS Vita

I never actually played Grim Fandango when it was originally released; Tim Schafer’s bizarre cult classic was always one of those games I read about countless times but never got around to playing myself. Perhaps this remaster will end up being the definitive version when it comes out later this month.

A Taste Of Fresh Blood

Dying Light - 1

January 27 – Dying Light | PC, PS4, XB1

I know that Dying Light is one of the more commonly-anticipated releases for PS4 & XB1 in early 2015; the fact that it is just now catching my attention is admittedly disappointing. This first-person survival game looks like a thrill ride; it incorporates smooth parkour-style movement and puts a very strong emphasis on the “survival” part of the formula. It reminds me of The Walking Dead, The Last of Us, and Condemned: Criminal Origins blended together – quite the combination. No doubt, Dying Light one is my top upcoming release for January 2015.
