NHL Hitz 2003 Review

Developer: Midway Publisher: Midway
Release Date: September 16, 2002 Also On: GCN, PS2 and Xbox

NHL Hitz 20-03 is a basic upgrade from 20-02. The game adds a hockey school where you can work on your skills and mini games. Now, in fights you can have the goalies duke it out.

The games playability is great thanks to simple controls and game play which is easy enough for anyone to pick up and play. The goalies are smarter and can stop more goals then in the original.

Graphics are just as good as any sports game is right now. With all the motion capture black box and Midway did, it turned out better then anyone had ever expected. The players are realistic and the fans are too. The faces have extreme detail and the equipment does as well.

The sound is frankly astounding. You can hear the echoing of the crash against the boards. The crowd roars and reacts to everything that is going on the ice. You can even hear fists hitting the faces during fights and hear the scraping of the skates on ice.

The game is a creative way to express hockey but there are many hockey simulations out there that can do the same thing if they want. This is extreme style hockey, which makes Midway sports titles very special. Sports fans will enjoy this game and add it to there collection. Even non sports fans will enjoy the arcade style game play. This is a sports lover/ arcade player’s dream game.

Hitz has an assortment of extras but once you have finished the franchise and season mode it starts to get tiresome. There is also a new version coming out next season, so we also look forward to the new one!
