Nintendo Confirms New Console for 2012

It’s official: Nintendo will release the successor to their Wii home console in 2012. The yet-to-be-named system will reportedly be “significantly more powerful” than the PS3 and Xbox 360. Sources also tell IGN that “it will have a 6-inch touch screen display, dual analog sticks, and has the ability to stream content directly from the console.”

For its part, Nintendo says that the new system will debut in playable form at E3 in June. In an interview with Bloomberg, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said, “We would like to propose a new approach to home video game consoles.” He added that it would be “difficult to make 3D images a key feature, because 3D televisions haven’t obtained wide acceptance yet.”
