Nintendo Power Shuts Its Doors

Another gaming magazine will soon cease to exist. Nintendo Power is shutting its doors for good. The news follows the closure of long-time industry staples like EGM and GamePro. The magazine’s subscriber base dropped to 475,000. Game Informer has over six million subscribers by comparison. It is not clear how subscribers will be compensated once publication ends.

Nintendo Power started in 1988 as a bi-monthly to replace the Nintendo Fan Club newsletter. Nintendo was the publisher until 2007 when Future Publishing took over to give the magazine a more independent image. Many of the reviews often inflated scores for games above the average on aggregated review sites like Metacritic.
