An innovative concept that has broken barriers

Nintendo Switch came after a major fiasco with the Wii U. Nintendo’s previous console was a victim of bad marketing and was highly criticized. However, with the Nintendo Switch, they had a very clear format: a portable console powerful enough to be used as a desktop console.

This, coupled with the vast catalog of the console that has recently reached 10k games worldwide, has guaranteed that the Switch is a huge success. And this is backed up by the numbers.

Unit sales for the entire Nintendo Switch family of systems rose by 13.9% year-on-year to 3.91 million units. Software unit sales grew by 26.1% year-on-year to 52.21 million units.

The new title The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold 18.51 million units during the first quarter. This not only significantly increased software unit sales overall but also drove Switch hardware sales, despite the system’s age and a rumored successor for 2024.

However, the list of the console’s best-selling games to date amazes with more than 290 million units sold! Thanks to the console’s software and hardware sales, the Nintendo Switch is positioned ahead of current generation consoles.
