No Xbox 360 Price Cut in Response to PS3’s
Microsoft is holding firm. After seeing Sony drop the price of the 120GB PS3 Slim console to $250 from $300, Microsoft’s Xbox 360 will remain at $300. Microsoft also sells a harddrive-less version of the system for $200. However, many retailers do not even stock it. The Xbox 360 has consistently outperformed the PS3 in America, although the PS3 has outpaced the Xbox 360 in monthly sales worldwide.
“As you can imagine, we plan for these scenarios all the time,” said Microsoft’s vice president of interactive entertainment, Chris Lewis. “For me to sit here and say that was a big surprise would be a lie. Respect for what they do, of course. I love the competition, actually: it keeps us on our toes, and consumers benefit ultimately.”
