Northgard is a Viking-themed RTS out now on Nintendo Switch

The real-time strategy game Northgard is out today on Nintendo Switch. The RTS comes from French indie developer Shiro Games, the studio behind Evoland and Evoland 2.

Northgard, which was first released on Steam last year, is based on Norse mythology. You control a clan of Vikings who are vying for control of a mysterious new continent.

“After years of tireless explorations, brave Vikings have discovered a new land filled with mystery, danger, and riches: Northgard,” the developer’s description says. “The boldest Northmen have set sail to explore and conquer these new shores, bring fame to their Clan and write history through conquest, trading, or devotion to the Gods.”

The game has you build a Viking settlement on the newly discovered continent of Northgard. Once your settlement is founded, you will assign jobs to your Vikings, manage resources, and try to survive both harsh winters and rival clans.

You can either play against AI with different difficulty settings or against friends on dedicated servers. Victory can come in the form of different conditions, including conquest, fame, lore, or trade.

Northgard clocks in at just 659 MB, so it’s a relatively small download. You can buy it for $34.99 on Nintendo’s eShop. A physical version will be released on October 8. The game is also coming to PS4 and Xbox One.
