First, there were exclusive Pokemon: Black 2 players will find Magby and Buneary, while White 2 owners can catch Elekid and Skitty. It is doubtful that these will be the only version-exclusive monsters, but they were the only ones mentioned by CoroCoro. Previously it was confirmed that Black 2 and White 2 will feature an expanded National Pokedex that includes 250 monsters. We also know some of the favorites from past generations that will be found in the region, such as Eevee, Arcanine, Tyranitar, and Riolu – who evolves into Lucario, the powerful combatant seen in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Black City and White Forest will return in the sequels, which might clear up any confusion about the ice covering part of the Unova region in the early images of the new world map. There are also new cave areas that are set to appear in each version; one is water-based and the other is magma-based. (Perhaps these could be the location of the legendary duo from the third generation, Groudon and Kyogre?)

Other areas from Black and White are said to have undergone massive changes; even some of the Gyms and Gym Leaders are different this time around, such as Elesa’s new Flaaffy and fashion show-based Gym design.

Pokemon Black and White 2 - Keldeo Resoultion FormeMoving on, there are some new details about the “forms” that certain Pokemon can take. Though there aren’t any brand-new Pokemon featured in the sequels, some of these altered beasts sound pretty interesting.

First, Keldeo can change to a new “Resolution Form” when it learns the “Secret Sword” attack, but there’s a catch: players must also engage in a special event found within the game. Additionally, the current party must include all three members of Black and White’s legendary trio – Terrakion, Virizion, and Cobalion.

Next are Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landrous; the “wandering” legendary beasts from Black and White transform into the new “Sacret Beast” forms whenever they are equipped with a held item called the “Reflecting Mirror”. The new forms each include a new Ability, like Tornadus’s “Regenerator” and Thundurus’s “Volt Absorb”.

What makes this slightly confusing is that Nintendo previously confirmed these special forms of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landrous would only be found in the upcoming app/game for the Nintendo 3DS, Pokemon Dream Radar. This augmented reality download allows players to catch and transfer Pokemon to their copies of Black 2 or White 2, but no further details are currently available. Perhaps the “Reflecting Mirror” item is an alternative for players who don’t own a 3DS?

Finally, the “PokeTransfer” function works between all of the DS Pokemon titles – Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Black, and White. Additionally, special missions can be unlocked through certain events, such as showing a Meloetta to a specific character in Castelia City.

That’s all for now – but it sounds like some of the new features in Black 2 and White 2 are starting to come together, and we will find out for sure soon enough, with the Japanese launch coming up on June 23.
