Pokémon Sword and Shield have sold over 16 million units so far

Pokémon Sword and Shield

Despite some controversy, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield appear to be quite the hit.

Sword and Shield are the latest Pokémon role-playing games. They are the first game in the mainline series on Nintendo Switch. So it’s not much of a surprise that the games sold extremely well.

According to Nintendo’s latest financial report, the two games sold over 16 million units worldwide. That compares quite favorably with Pokémon X and Y, which sold 16.44 million units as of December 31, 2019. Those entries in the series were released on Nintendo 3DS back in 2013. That’s seven years of accumulated sales nearly matching just a few months for Sword and Shield.
