Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Ubisoft Montreal is taking over the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.

In a tweet Tuesday morning, Ubisoft gave us an update on the status of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. First announced in 2020, the game was delayed indefinitely. Now it looks like development has shifted from Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune to Ubisoft Montreal.

Here is the statement from the development team:

Hello, Prince of Persia fans!

The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the very birthplace of the epic Sands of Time trilogy.

This decision is an important step, and the team building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.

We want to thank you all for your continuous support and patience throughout the development. Rest assured that we will update you on the progress in a future update.

The remake is (eventually) coming to PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. At this rate though, given the delays and the timing, we would be surprised if they didn’t also bring it to PS5 and Xbox Series X. The original Sands of Time is approaching its 20th anniversary; it was released in 2003 on GameCube, PS2, and Xbox. With any luck, the remake will come out in time to celebrate.
