Project Gotham Racing 2 Review

Developer: Bizarre Creations Publisher: Microsoft
Release Date: November 17, 2003 Also On: None

At the Xbox launch, Microsoft Game Studios and Bizarre creations released Project Gotham Racing. This racer was good and introduced the kudos system, which was one of the best parts about the game. Now, Project Gotham Racing 2 is here and is way better than the original.

Unlike most racers, PGR had realistic engine sounds straight from the manufacturers of the vehicles. However, you do not get the feel for each car’s real power. The in-game music is great, but lacks a variety of music types. Mostly you just get a bunch of rap that is annoying as hell. Crashes still sound weak. They sound basically just like two soda cans colliding with one another. It is a shame.

The kudos system is back and better than ever. There are new ways to score with the system that includes drafting, 180’s, 360’s, and slides that are now easier to perform. Driving is difficult to master basically because it is all about style rather than speed. Once you learn how to mix style and speed together, you will rack up some huge points on Xbox Live.

There are plenty of unlockable cars in PGR2. There are plenty of tracks in the game to drive on as well, plus, PGR2 never really ends. Your scores, ghosts, and times are posted on Xbox Live to share with the rest of the world and compared to them. If you have Xbox Live, I strongly suggest picking this one up now. If you do not have XBL, it is still an incredibly long game to play alone.
