PS2 Reaches Landmark 100 Million

Sony has shipped its one-hundred millionth (that’s a lot of 0’s) PlayStation 2 units worldwide, breaking the original PlayStation’s record time in reaching that milestone. The PS2 has now reached 100 million just under six years after its March 2000 launch in Japan. The PlayStation sold 100 million units worldwide in nine years and six months. North American numbers alone for the PS2 are nearly double that of global Xbox shipments since its 2001 launch. By region, here are Sony’s PS2 numbers since launch:

North America – 40.65 million units
Europe and PAL territories – 37.14 million units
Asia – 22.22 million units
