PS3 Beats Wii in Japan for March

As Michigan State learned on Monday, sometimes you lose despite having home court advantage (or as close to it as you get). Nintendo is having the same problem with Sony (also from Japan). The PS3 outsold the Wii for the month of March 2009 as demand for Nintendo’s console dropped 63 percent from a year ago. PS3 posted sales of 146,948 in Japan for March, while Wii sold 99,335.

Despite its recent success, Sony still badly trails the Wii in Japan. According to the Financial Times, PS3 has racked up only 3 million compared to almost 8 million Wii systems. “It is still the first few months of the year when sales are slow for the industry, so we are not particularly concerned,” Nintendo said.
