PS3 Has Backwards Compatibility Problem w/ 200 Games

Sony is not having a hard time selling out their PS3 in Japan, with 88,000 sold in the first two days. Most store inventories sold out within hours. As expected though, there were some problems with the launch. There are reports out of Japan that the system will not play certain original PlayStation and PlayStation 2, leading to complaints that the system is not fully backwards compatible.

Of the 8,000+ games on the two systems, only about 200 are encountering issues such as glitches and sound errors. “There are always sorts of little problems at launch … It may take some time to make everything compatible, but I don’t think it’s a huge problem,” KBC Securities analyst Hiroshi Kamide said. We will have more on any problems with the PlayStation 3 launch as it arrives in the US.
