Sony reconfirmed that the PS3 would use Blu-Ray discs as its media format. It will also support DVD, among other formats. It will be backwards-compatible all the way back to the original PlayStation.

It will have slots for Memory Stick Duo, a SD slot, and a compact flash memory slot. It will also have a slot for a detachable hard drive. The PS3 will have the capability to support seven Bluetooth controllers. It will also have six USB slots: four up front and two in the back.

Later this evening, we’ll post a few transcript of the Sony news conference. Be sure to check back for more images, information, and complete coverage of the day’s events regarding the PS3.
