PS3, PSP Top-Selling Systems in 2nd Quarter

The numbers are in and they are surprisingly good for Sony. Despite a prolonged outage for the PlayStation Network between April and late May, the company managed to sell more PS3 systems than both the Xbox 360 and Wii. Just as surprising was the fact that the PSP, which saw a price drop to $130 in February, tied the PS3 for first place with 1.8 million units sold. Xbox 360 sold 1.7 million units, Wii sold 1.56 million units, and the Nintendo DS (including DS Lite, DSi and XL) sold 1.44 million units. The Nintendo 3DS rounded out the systems in dead last, managing only 710,000 units. The recently announced price drop to $170 will undoubtedly help improve those numbers though in the months to come. All sales represent global totals between the months of April and June.
