PS3 Slim Revealed, 80GB PS3 $300 Starting Tomorrow
Big news from the Gamescom in Germany. The system that everyone already knew was in development, the PS3 Slim, was officially revealed. It will launch in September for $300 coming with a 120GB hard drive, two USB ports, built-in WiFi, Bluetooth and Blu-Ray. The PS3 Slim is 34 percent lighter and draws 34 percent less power. Sites like Amazon.com are already taking pre-orders.
For those that would rather buy the current model, the 80GB version is dropping in price to $300 starting tomorrow. Amazon.com didn’t bother waiting until tomorrow. The 80GB PS3
is retailing for $300, while the 160GB PS3 with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
now retails for $400.

The PlayStation Network is going to be upgraded today with Firmware Update 3.0 which “adds a number of great new features that we’re excited to share with you. The latest update incorporates changes that improve navigation on your PS3. First, you’ll notice some cosmetic changes to the design of the XMB (Xross Media Bar). We’ve enhanced the look and feel of the XMB so that it’s easier and even more intuitive to use. We’ve also added network improvements and personalization options to help enhance your PS3 experience,” Sony said on their blog.
