PS3 Surges Past Xbox 360 in January 2008 Sales Charts

The month of January 2008 will go down as the first month that Sony’s next-gen system outperformed Microsoft’s in the United States. Starting the New Year off strong, Sony pulled in sales of 269,000 coming just 5,000 short of Wii, which is still having shortages. Nintendo DS and PSP followed, with Xbox 360 tied for last place.

3. Nintendo DS: 251,000
4. PlayStation Portable: 230,000
4. Xbox 360: 230,000

While the hardware scene may boast better for Nintendo and Sony, the software side leaves room for Microsoft. The Xbox 360 took four of the top 10 slots for the month. The Wii took three slots in the top 10, the Nintendo DS two and the PlayStation 3 one. Yet another good month for Activision as Call of Duty 4 and Guitar Hero 3 both had a pair of titles in the top 10.
