Like Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo will be offering a Black Friday console bundle. There’s only one problem: it’s an old model of the Switch.
The Black Friday Nintendo Switch bundle comes with the console-handheld hybrid and a download code for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for $299. Sounds good, right? It’s a Switch with a free game.
However, the bundle comes with an asterisk. According to Nintendo’s own Black Friday announcement, the Switch that is included with the Black Friday bundle is an old model with
“Includes original Nintendo Switch model HAC-001. Battery performance ranges from 2.5 to 6.5 hours,” the page says.
In comparison, the new model offers a battery life of between 4.5 to 9 hours, depending on the game. The model that you want is HAC-001(-01).
So while the Black Friday bundle does offer a free game download, it comes at a cost. Not only will the game download take up space on your SD card, but you’re also sacrificing battery life with an old model.
