R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 Coming in March to PSN

Namco Bandai has announced that R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 will be re-launched March 2011 as a PS One Classic on the PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3, PSP and PSP Go. The re-launch comes in anticipation of Ridge Racer 3D for the Nintendo 3DS this spring, and the recently announced Ridge Racer Unbounded, which will be available in 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.

R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 was originally released for the PlayStation in 1999 and quickly garnered critical acclaim as one of the best racing games available. The game also found a highly devoted fan base with its fast-paced drift racing gameplay. The unique story-driven Grand Prix mode, jazz-influenced soundtrack and two-player split-screen racing were new additions for the series that set the benchmark for all future Ridge Racer titles.

R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 follows the path of a rookie driver as he joins one of four racing teams. The game features 48 unique cars with over 300 variations spread across four car manufacturers, each with their own signature designs and handling. Players will race through eight legendary courses, full of twisting hairpin turns and perilous straight-aways. Machines can be tuned for drift or grip-style racing based on the player’s preference. The two styles of handling allow for players to slide through corners or hug the road. Dominate the competition and become the world champion of drift racing.
