Red Dead Redemption just turned 10

Red Dead Redemption

Boy, that was fast. Rockstar’s Western-themed action-adventure Red Dead Redemption turns ten today.

Developed over the course of five years, Red Dead Redemption felt like the pinnacle of gaming when it was released on PS3 and Xbox 360. One of the top-selling games last generation, it featured vibrant game world, a fitting soundtrack, and a story that puts most Hollywood productions to shame.

And even though Redemption is now a decade old, it still looks good. That’s thanks to an update on Xbox One X that outputs the game at 4K resolution. In comparison, the game output at 720p on Xbox 360 and upscaled to 720p on PS3. Check out this comparison video to see the difference.

About a year and a half ago, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PS4 and Xbox One. A version launched on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. It’s also now available on Xbox Game Pass.

Anyway, I’ll always remember Redemption fondly as one of the best PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games. Cheers to the developers at Rockstar San Diego who made this masterpiece happen!
