Report: SNES Outselling PS3 on Amazon

A number of sites have been reporting over the weekend that the SNES, Nintendo’s 16-bit console released in 1991, has been outselling Sony’s newly released PlayStation 3 on Amazon.com. As of 6 p.m. EST Sunday February 18, 2007, there is no listing for the SNES in the “Top Sellers” for Video Games on Amazon.com. According to Amazon: “These lists, updated hourly, contain bestselling, non-accessory items.”

The PlayStation 3 is near the bottom of the barrel of “Best Sellers” at 92, with games like Cooking Mama, Crazy Machines: The Wacky Contraptions and Final Fantasy X above it right now. Given the fact that demand for the PS3 is low on Amazon, it is likely the case that the reports around the Internet are true, but that the SNES experienced an unusual bump in sales at the time. It is worth noting that the Nintendo Wii is #4, Xbox 360 #14 and the Slim PS2 at #21. The overall #1 is Wii Play.
