Revolution Details: 2006 release, DVD-compatible

On the heels of last night’s 360 announcement, Nintendo hoped to deflate whatever Microsoft hoped to gain from their event by releasing an article detailing the Revolution. They reconfirmed the Revolution would be backwards compatible and will come with wifi out-of-the-box, something the Xbox 360 currently lacks (360 will have an ethernet port). The system will also use the traditional DVD format, ditching the smaller discs used with the GCN. Finally, a 2006 release schedule was announced.

“In its final form, Revolution will be about the thickness of three standard DVD cases and only slightly longer. The versatile Revolution will play either horizontally or vertically, allowing the user total flexibility in setting up a gaming session wherever they have a television,” the article said, posted on Nintendo’s website. More details on the Revolution are expected at E3, so stay tuned throughout the next several days!
