Rocket League free-to-play does not require PS Plus or Nintendo Switch Online

Rocket League

Psyonix announced today that Rocket League‘s upcoming transition to free-to-play will come with an added bonus.

“PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch Online will no longer be required for online play on those platforms,” the publisher said in a blog post. However, Xbox Live is still required to play on Xbox One.

After first launching in 2015, Psyonix is celebrating its fifth anniversary this summer going free-to-play across all platforms. As we previously mentioned, existing players will be able to keep their inventory of customization items.

In addition, the company has announced the following bonuses for anyone who played prior to the launch of the free-to-play version:

  • All Rocket League-branded DLC packs released before free to play
  • “Est. 20XX” title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
  • 200+ Common items upgraded to “Legacy” quality
  • Golden Cosmos Boost
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels
  • Huntress Player Banner

An Epic Games Store version of the game is also coming later this year. Epic purchased developer Psyonix in May 2019. The Epic Games Store version supports cross-platform play with Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
