Rocket League is removing loot boxes

Rocket League will soon ditch loot boxes. The announcement came yesterday via a blog post on developer Psyonix’s website.

In a short statement, the company explained the decision:

Here at Psyonix, and Epic Games as a whole, we are dedicated to creating the best possible experience for our players all over the world. In pursuit of that goal, later this year we will remove all paid, randomized Crates from Rocket League

The new system that will be put in place will show players the exact items in advance of purchase. They compared the changes to the new system that was implemented in Fortnite: Save the World earlier this year.

A specific timeline for the rollout of the new system will be announced at a later date. Psyonix says that “Rocket Pass Premium, DLC Cars, and Esports Shop items will continue to be offered for direct purchase alongside our new system.”

Rocket League is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Psyonix added cross-play between all platforms earlier this year.
