Sega Pledges 1,000 Games for Revolution

If you thought third parties were taking the Revolution’s Virtual Console lightly, wait until you hear this. Sega and Hudson have pledged support for the forthcoming Revolution with a back catalog of games. Over 1,000 games from the Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx will be coming to the Revolution. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said that he considers the Virtual Console “the video game equivalent of Apple’s iTunes,” the popular music download service.

In a separate announcement from Iwata’s speech at GDC, Nintendo appeared to be entering the realm that Sony and Microsoft have both showed interest in: offering new game downloads for profit. “The new forms of innovative software that can be created by any size developer will be made available for download via Revolution’s Virtual Console service.”
