Sega’s Genesis Mini is out today

The Genesis Mini is out today, a month after the 30th anniversary of the Sega Genesis in North America.

Aside from the miniature console itself, the Genesis Mini bundle includes 42 games, two replica three-button USB Genesis controllers, a USB to Micro-B power cable, a power adapter, and an HDMI cable. It retails for $79.99.

The system is based on the design of the original Sega Genesis that was first released in North America in 1989, although the Mini is 55% smaller. The release of Sega’s micro-console comes after the commercial success of Nintendo’s NES Classic and SNES Classic, as well as the failure of Sony’s PlayStation Classic.

It’s worth noting that M2 is behind the Sega Genesis Mini, not AtGames, which released the disappointing Sega Genesis Flashback. M2 is behind the Sega Ages line on PS3, Xbox 360, and Switch, as well as Sega 3D Classics Collection for the Nintendo 3DS.
