Seven Purely Evil Characters in RPGs

Role-playing games include a lot of characters. Some of them are good and admirable people. Some are purely vile and are far beyond redemption. Here are seven evil characters in RPGs.

I tried to include some lesser-known villains on this list as well as fairly well-known ones. Be sure to include your picks on the forums. The link is at the bottom of the article.

This list isn’t ranked, and each of these characters is purely evil in their own way. The article also obviously contains plot spoilers for the characters involved. So if you plan on playing one of these games, you may want to skip that section of the article.

Syanna – The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

Syanna had a rough childhood, to put it extremely mildly. She was abused and assaulted by Knights who were “noble and honorable” in many people’s eyes. After many years, she seduced and manipulated Dettlaff into killing each and everyone who was associated with her childhood trauma.

Syanna - The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine

But her extremely vile behavior is unjustifiable because of her childhood. She’s just as monstrous as the people who made her like this. She was extremely jealous of her sister, Anna Henrietta and she wanted to murder her as well. But Geralt’s choices might result in her redeeming herself at the end of the game. However, I doubt that someone as devious and dangerous as Syanna could be trusted…

Legate Lanius – Fallout New Vegas

Legate Lanius is an incredibly dangerous and powerful member of Caesar’s Legion. He’s feared by everyone, maybe except Caesar himself, mainly because he tortures anyone and everyone he likes.

Legate Lanius from Fallout New Vegas

The below paragraph will explain how much of a sadistic psychopath Lanius is:

Refugees at Bitter Springs are giving startling accounts of the Legate, known as Lanius, who is said to be Caesar’s top field commander. One refugee told us that “The Legate took over an “under-performing” squad of troops by beating its commander to death in full view of everyone.” The Legate then ordered a tenth of his own troops to be killed by the other nine-tenths. And you thought your boss was a pain.

He isn’t called the Monster/Terror of the East for nothing.

Gaunter O’Dimm – The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone

Don’t be fooled by his simple appearance. Gaunter O’Dimm is equal to the Devil himself. He’s a devious entity whose real identity is unknown to anyone except himself. Because of his charming and friendly attitude, people rarely consider him a villain.

Gaunter O'Dimm - The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone

Gaunter O’Dimm’s acronym is “GOD” and that just might be what he is… except he’s miles away from being benevolent. He manipulates people by promising riches and actually giving what anyone asks him. And at some point, he will come to reclaim the debt by collecting his victim’s very soul.

The Monolith – S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl

The Monolith, aka the Wish Granter, is an illusion that the C-Consciousness made. To put it simply, C-Consciousness is a group of seven individuals that keep the secrets of the Zone. Some might argue that it’s the real villain here. But including an evil entity is nice for a list like this because many villains are people.

The Monolith - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl

The Monolith attracts people by talking to them and promising them anything they wish for. But unfortunately, it’s a lie and this entity creates mindless soldiers that prevent others from uncovering the secrets of the Zone. I highly suggest playing the entire S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy to understand the beautiful lore behind the games. Also, be sure to check out the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly mod, which is a free-to-play S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game.

Calixto Corrium – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Calixto Corrium’s psychotic mind is insanely disturbing. He’s a delusional psychopath who believes that he can bring his sister back to the world of living by doing atrocious things. On the outside, he seems to be a normal merchant who doesn’t seem suspicious at all… but he’s actually the serial killer known as The Butcher who murders women at Windhelm.

Calixto Corrium - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Calixto dabbles in necromancy and he kills women and harvests their body parts in order to resurrect his sister. If that isn’t disturbing enough, I don’t know what is. As I said earlier, his normal appearance is quite terrifying. No one can imagine he’s a monster, deep down.

Yosuke Tendo – Yakuza Like a Dragon

Yosuke Tendo is a former superheavyweight boxer who rigged fights and killed his opponents by beating them with his bare hands. At one point in the game, a man says that his fists need a weapon license because of how destructive he is. This monster of a man who stands at six and a half inches tall is also very calculating and devious.

Yosuke Tendo - Yakuza Like a Dragon

Tendo is Machiavellian through and through and is willing to kill anyone who stands in his way of becoming a powerful Yakuza officer. This sadistic man wears a creepy smirk on his face most of the time and never looks overly angry, sad, or emotional. All in all, he’s a great villain and I hope he will return in the next Yakuza games because he’s such an interesting character.

Mohg, the Lord of Blood – Elden Ring

Mohg is probably the single evilest character in a From Software game. His character design perfectly matches his personality, with grotesque horns all over his body. He is very different from his brother, Morgott, who is a rational and honorable person, despite being an obstacle in the Tarnished’s path. Mohg established a huge cult that worships him and his empire of blood.

Mohg, the Lord of Blood - Elden Ring

One of his most heinous crimes is kidnapping Malenia’s brother, Miquella, who looked like a child… and violating him. It’s very eerie and creepy how he actually loves Miquella in his own twisted and disturbing way. Even his outfit’s item description says that he’s a “Raving Madman” and it’s a perfect description of this monster.

Just imagine what Malenia would’ve done to him if she found out what Mohg did to her loving little brother…
