Silent Line: Armored Core Review

Developer: From Software Publisher: Agetec

Armored Core is not a stranger to many PlayStation and PlayStation 2 owners. Back in 1997 the series first appeared on Sony’s PlayStation under the guidance of SCEA. Today, Armored Core is under Agetec’s roof . Silent Line: Armored Core brings more missions, more weapons and more enemies to the mix in a Armored Core fan’s paradise.

Lets rundown the story. Corporations are waging war for domination of the planet’s natural resources. It is up to you to adventure into the Silent Line, where no one has returned. Action takes place from desert ruins to dense jungles.

If you are a veteran of the Armored Core license, you will most likely be able to blast your way through each level kicking everyone’s butt. Newcomers (like myself) will have to practice and adapt to the control set-up, which is nothing less than frustrating at times. Once things are settled down, your mech is relatively versatile and satisfying to run, boost and hover, attacking them with both missiles and machine gun ammo. One thing that was quite frustrating was the fact that you don’t have a way to instantly turn your mech, which will result in death occasionally.

Silent Line adds a whole new 1st person view, dubbed the cockpit perspective. Most of the environments throughout the game will prove to be very dark and I guess you could say eerie. Then again, Silent Line does take place in post-apocalyptic Earth, so that might explain it. Mech designs are well done, but less impressive than other mech games (i.e. Zone of the Enders 2).

Silent Line offers 34 missions, 41 arena opponents, 21 VS battle maps, and 428 parts (at least according to Agetec, I didn’t get the chance to count them all). One of the most entertaining parts of the game is the versus battle arena multi-player mayhem, which allows you to go head to head with a friend. In the end, story mode is probably the most entertaining aspect of the game, with versus following behind slightly. I strongly recommend that mech fans pick a copy of Silent Line: Armored Core today.
