Sonic the Hedgehog movie hints at sequel

It might not be long before the newly-released Sonic the Hedgehog movie has a sequel. That’s not just pure speculation based on strong box office sales. The film itself heavily hints at it.

There are at least two points near the end where a possible sequel are not very subtly suggested. The first is when Dr. Robotnik is exiled through a ring portal to a distant mushroom planet. Jim Carrey’s character quips that most men wouldn’t be able to survive, but that he would make it back to Earth within a year.

“Uninhabited planet. No resources. No apparent way home. A lesser man would die here. I’ll be home by Christmas,” Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik character says as he begins to gather resources for his way back to Earth.

The second, more direct suggestion of a sequel comes after the credits begin to roll. The camera pans over a forest when another portal opens and a not-too-mysterious character comes out. It’s Tails, and he’s apparently ready to help Sonic.

“He’s here. I’ve found him. I just hope I’m not too late,” Tails says as his two bushy tails go into propeller-like action. At that point, the rest of the credits roll.
