It was revealed over the weekend that a new next-gen Sonic game may be in the works from Sega. Titled Sonic Unleashed, the purported game will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Kotaku has posted screenshots from the game and a video surfaced on YouTube at about the same time.
After a poor reception with Sonic the Hedgehog for PS3 and Xbox 360, Sega appears to be taking a route that fans have long asked for: 2D platforming with 3D backgrounds. The video shows the “2.5D” gameplay in its HD glory. I checked my calendar and April Fool’s Day is not for another week. If the screens and video are to believed, and considering their quality, they should be, fans should have much reason for celebration.
