Sony and Discord have announced a PlayStation alliance

Discord

Recently, there was speculation that Microsoft would acquire Discord. Instead, Sony has now publicly revealed that it has formed an agreement with Discord, which will incorporate the app into the PlayStation social experience.

The announcement was made by Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), in a post published on the company’s official site. In this post, he stated that this partnership aims to tie together the Discord and PlayStation interactions and bring them to console and smartphone early next year.

“At PlayStation, we’re constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect with one another, form new friendships and communities, and share fun experiences and lasting memories. It’s in this spirit that we’re excited to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communication service popularized by gamers and used by more than 140 million people every month around the world,” Ryan wrote in the post

“Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together,” he added.

This alliance will make it easier for friends, groups, and communities to communicate and have fun while playing together. It is worth remembering that Discord currently has a base of more than 140 million monthly active users around the world.

This partnership with Discord contributes to Sony’s attempts to be present on other fronts to strengthen its gaming ecosystem, which we saw last March when it announced the acquisition of the Evolution Championship Series, or Evo, the most crucial international fighting game tournament.

Unlike Evo, it is clear that Sony did not purchase Discord and only owns a minority stake. Now all that remains is to wait until the beginning of 2022 to see the results of this partnership.
