Sony Ships 10,000 PS3 Dev Kits

Third parties appear to be clamoring for a chance to develop games on the PlayStation 3. GameSpot reports that with four months until the PS3’s global launch, Sony “has already shipped out more than 10,000 PS3 development kits. That’s more than the total number of development systems for any other PlayStation platform, according to the publisher. As for who is working with those kits, Sony said it shipped them out to 208 companies in 11 different countries — also all-time highs for the PlayStation brand.” Epic Games’ Mark Rein said that Sony is ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 for the same period the year prior, saying that finished PS3 hardware was received by developers around the time of E3 2006.
