Sony made some PlayStation VR news today with the unveiling of a new controller.

The controller has an orb design that Sony says “will change how VR games are played.”

“Our new VR controller speaks to our mission of achieving a much deeper sense of presence and stronger feeling of immersion in VR experiences,” says Sony’s Hideaki Nishino. “It will build upon the innovation we introduced with the DualSense wireless controller, which changed how games ‘feel’ on PS5 by unlocking a new way to tap into the sense of touch. Now we’re bringing that innovation to VR gaming.”

The VR controller has several key features, including some that were taken from the DualSense controller. Among the features are adaptive triggers with “palpable” tension. It also has haptic feedback for “textured” and “nuanced” feedback. The new PlayStation VR headset tracks movement with a tracking ring that’s at the bottom of the controller.

In addition, “the controller can detect your fingers without any pressing in the areas where you place your thumb, index, or middle fingers. This enables you to make more natural gestures with your hands during gameplay.”

Sony has not announced a release date or price for the new PlayStation VR headset.
