Star Titan, out now on Android and iOS, pays homage to mecha anime

If you’re a fan of mecha anime from the ’80s and ’90s, there’s a new side-scrolling run-and-gun shooter out called Star Titan. It’s out now on Android and iOS devices.

Star Titan combines 2.5D graphics, fast-paced combat, and four distinct levels featuring atmospheric lighting and particle effects. You can play as two unique mechs at launch: the fast and nimble Phoenix or the hulking tank-like character Behemoth who can take and deliver a lot of damage.

According to the developers, the game has a rewards system where if you perform well, you earn credits to upgrade your Titan roster. This will enhance your health and damage output. You can also unlock several alternate skins.

“I grew up playing run-and-gun shooters like Contra and Metal Slug and was surprised to find that the genre wasn’t really a thing on mobile platforms,” says Omid Karimpour, managing director and co-founder at Dark Pyre Interactive.

“So I decided to create my own with Star Titan. Knowing that the mobile market is highly competitive, we spent the time and resources to make Star Titan a high-end, premium mobile game with top-notch 3D models, stunning worlds, and challenging encounters – including an unlockable Hard Mode for the hardcore gamers out there,” Karimpour adds.

The game looks promising in the trailer, which you can watch below. But one of my key questions is how it controls on a mobile device. I’ve found touchscreen controls to be quite annoying in games like Call of Duty Mobile.

Thankfully, it doesn’t cost that much to find out. Star Titan is available on the App Store and Google Play for $1.99.
