Since the opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios in Japan (which we previously covered here on Game Freaks 365), it was only a matter of time before it came to the United States.
After a long wait, today Universal Studios Hollywood has announced what every Nintendo fan has been waiting for. Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, the first attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood’s Super Nintendo World, will open in early 2023. If you’re a Nintendo fan, get ready for one of the most incredible Mario Kart experiences ever.
Augmented reality takes center stage
Augmented reality has taken park attractions to another level. Since the beginning of the year 2000, different amusement parks were already making use of this technology in its most archaic aspect. Even so, the results achieved blew the minds of the people who enjoyed these attractions.

22 years have passed, and how far this technology has advanced is absurd. This is why Universal Studios Hollywood continues to build one of the most incredible augmented reality experiences available today. To achieve an experience as close to a Mario Kart game as possible, they have used a mix of technologies.
It seamlessly fuses the use and integration of head-mounted augmented reality (AR) goggles with projection mapping technology, and a multi-sensory cornucopia of color, sound, and movement to debut a ride that’s unparalleled anywhere within the theme park industry.
Experience a Mario Kart race in the depths of Bowser’s castle
In the attraction of Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge at Super Nintendo World, guests will climb aboard stadium-style, four-seat Mario Kart vehicles inspired by the video game in the depths of the dungeon within Bowser’s Castle.
This attraction is also one of the most complex rides ever built within the entertainment industry. Because of the way it is designed, both the physical and virtual experience, no two rides will ever be alike. Giving you a new experience every time you ride. As part of Team Mario, guests will steer through courses underwater and in the clouds to compete for the Golden Cup, while collecting coins to defeat Team Bowser and win.
Early 2023
Unsurprisingly, Super Nintendo World is a collaboration between Nintendo and the visionaries at Universal Creative. Both teams have worked together to take the theme park experience to another level. They have worked hand in hand a lot in recent months; therefore, in early 2023 we will be able to enjoy this incredible attraction.
In addition to enjoying the attraction, a big retail store with merchandise from the Super Mario universe is coming too. It’s a merchandising store where you can find items from Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser, Peach, and more.
