Take-Two Interactive acquires Zynga in $12.7B deal

Takes-Two Interactive Zynga

After weeks of looking to buy studios, Take-Two has closed the deal with the mobile giant Zynga.

Take-Two Interactive and Zynga announced today via BusinessWire that they have agreed to a $12.7 billion deal for the mobile game studio to be absorbed into Take-Two Interactive. Take-Two will become one of the leading publishers in the mobile market as a result of today’s deal.

Both organizations have built and expanded renowned franchises, resulting in one of the industry’s largest and most diverse intellectual property portfolios. Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Midnight Club, NBA 2K, BioShock, and other Take-Two titles are among the most well-known. CSR Racing, Empires & Puzzles, FarmVille, Golf Rival, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells, and many others are among Zynga’s best games.

Synergies between licenses

Zynga CEO Frank Gibeau stated that synergies between his company’s mobile experience and Take-Two’s with next-gen platforms will help “connect the world with games that achieve significant growth.” We expect that this will be reflected in prospective GTA adaptations and other Take-Two properties for mobile.

We can only wait to see what these two giant companies, who have now merged, produce. Perhaps we’ll see some franchises migrate from consoles and PCs to the mobile market? Only time will tell if this is true.
