Tekken 8 to be developed from scratch in Unreal 5 by Bandai Namco

Tekken 8

During the latest State of Play, Tekken 8, along with God of War, left us speechless from the graphical aspect

Sony and PlayStation’s latest State of Play was a success. Although for many gamers the presentation was very short, they managed to show a good amount of games. But, Tekken 8 was a total surprise, from the announcement, to the graphics.

Even during an interview with IGN, Katsuhiro Harada, the game’s director, explained a little more about the game. Highlighting that, in addition to being already several years under development, the game will be developed from the Unreal Engine 5.

An incredible graphics, along with advances in AI for a better gaming experience

The State of Okay had great exponents. God of War, Rise of the Ronin, and more are among the best; even so, Tekken 8 blew more than one away. Including me! Not only for seeing the return of 2 iconic video game characters, but also for the graphics. In a few words, what looked like an animation made exclusively for the presentation, was really a gameplay of the game.

Harada during the interview conducted by IGN commented that the games that have exploited the hardware of the consoles the most, have been the most successful. A clear recent example of this is God of War on the PS5. For this reason, Bandai Namco has taken the decision to develop the entire game with Unreal Engine 5.

As we have seen in the different fan-made reworks made in Unreal 5, such as the San Andreas rework, the power of this game engine is incredible. Therefore, the development team discarded all the modeling of Tekken 7, and started to model from 0 the characters, as well as the elements of the scenery, rain and sweat.

Although action games are not known for their graphics, Bandai Namco seeks to break this conception. Therefore, they will seek not only to make a next-gen game from the graphic aspect, but also from its gameplay. We have talked a lot about God of War: Ragnarok, but Tekken 8 could be positioned as the game with the best graphics of the PlayStation 5.
