The animated series will follow the globetrotting heroine Lara Croft as she assumes the role of the renowned Tomb Raider she is destined to become.
Following the success of Netflix’s Castlevania, the streaming service is expanding into more animated adaptations of video games, including Far Cry, League of Legends, and Devil May Cry. Square Enix has revealed a major update on one of the biggest series coming to the platform, the anime from the adventures of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.
Powerhouse Animation will produce the Tomb Raider anime series. Hayley Atwell will be joined by actors Allen Maldonado and Earl Baylon as Zip and Jonah Maiava, according to a press statement from Square Enix.
Baylon and Maiava first debuted in the rebooted game series, which gave Lara a new origin narrative and took place over the course of three games: Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. In terms of how this series relates to the events of the games, it appears to take place after the events of “Survivor Trilogy,” which reimagined the Tomb Raider for a new generation.
While Netflix and Legendary Television have been tight-lipped about when fans can expect Lara Croft’s new animated adventures to arrive on the streaming service, it’s evident that Netflix is going all-in on transforming some of the greatest gaming brands to its platform.
