Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 Review

Developer: EA Publisher: EA
Release Date: September 22, 2003 Also On: GCN, PC, PS2 and Xbox

Another year, another golf game; is that what you were thinking? The old-timer sport gets a chance to shine, in the form of a fresh face, Tiger Woods’. Whether it be the highly detailed create-a-player-type-mode or the 19 different courses that include both real PGA certified courses and EA creations, Tiger Woods 2004 has proven to be a worthy golf title, that can’t get the same reputation (that being a boring one) as its real-life brother.

Okay, here is what you need to know before renting/purchasing Tiger Woods 04’. You can play as or against 15 PGA pros or you can create your own golfer. In addition to the real PGA players, EA has added 12 fantasy golfers.

Using these golfers, you can travel around the globe to compete in various events. Using the Xbox’s internal clock and calendar, real events can take place at the same time that you would see them on television. Again, taking advantage of the Xbox hardware, you can play custom soundtracks.

While on the road, you can earn cash, which can then be used in the Pro Shop, where you can purchase over a thousand different items. Even cooler is the fact that companies like Nike can sponsor you, earning you gear and cash. My question to EA is, why can’t Microsoft sponsor me or better yet, Game Freaks 365?

Allow me to quickly run down the basics for the control scheme. Swinging is quite simple, use the left thumb stick, pushing back, then forward to hit the ball. You can also continuously press the white button in order to hit the ball even further than usual and use the black button, while moving the left thumb stick to have the ball spin. The game conveniently provides you with helpful tips, which can be disabled once you become familiar with the game. Anyway, in the end of the day, Tiger Woods 2004 proved to be a good rent, but since I am not that much of a golf person, I wouldn’t buy it. However, Tiger Woods 2004 is the best golf title that I have ever played, pick it up if you are a golfer.
