Travis Scott Fortnite Astronomical Concert draws 12.3 million viewers

Travis Scott Fortnite Astronomical Concert

It was a record night. The Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott performed for millions of fans last night in Fortnite.

Epic Games says that the virtual concert was a record-breaker in terms of the audience size for the in-game event. Fortnite – which helped lead the gaming industry to a record $120 billion in revenue last year – has the largest userbase of any game.

Over the course of the performance, Scott appeared as a towering version of himself which transformed into different globe-headed avatars transported through a series of impossible landscapes. The performance also featured the debut of a collaboration with Kid Cudi, “The Scotts.”

To be sure, it was a unique experience. In recent weeks, esports have taken on greater interest as regular sports have been sidelined. And it seems that video games will continue to intersect with other forms of media. Don’t be surprised if we see more concerts like this one in the future.
