Turning the Page: The End of My Time at Game Freaks 365

I have been writing about video games over the course of the past ten years. It started with a gaming forum known as Gaming Freaks – a small, ugly experiment that flopped in less than twelve months. While it was sufficient for a start, I decided to move on to bigger and better things. Game Freaks 365 was born.

A lot has taken place in the industry (and the world) since 2003. It’s hard to believe that it has been nearly nine years already. When the website was founded I was only fourteen years old and in middle school. Most of the people in the industry that I came into contact with had no idea that I was a minor. Looking back, that certainly did not hurt in procuring M-rated review copies.

Now that I am an adult going on twenty-four and graduated from college, I have to wonder what the next chapter of my life will bring. One thing that I am certain of is that my future will not include a role as the leader of Game Freaks 365. All good things must come to an end. This is the right time to do it.

Since I was a young kid I have always dreamed big. I wanted to start a video game website that would earn the respect of the gaming community and help consumers to make informed decisions when buying games. Game Freaks 365 certainly has done exactly that. I wanted to write and publish a novel that I would be proud of calling my own. Operation Bald Eagle is now available at online retailers alongside several other books that I have written. I wanted to teach and help a new generation grow up loving to learn just as much as I did. This will be my next challenge in life.

I recently applied to become a teacher in Chicago Public Schools. The district serves thousands of underserved children who are yearning for a quality education from a teacher that cares about their success. Every child deserves a good teacher. I want to provide it for them. It will undoubtedly be a challenge, probably far more difficult than any that I have ever faced, but I am up for it.

Unfortunately the time commitment that this undertaking requires will preclude me from my day-to-day duties on Game Freaks 365. I will still contribute to the site in any way that is humanly possible, but in a different capacity. Let there be no mistake about it – Game Freaks 365 will continue on and I intend for it to be stronger under new leadership.

This is the most difficult decision that I have made in my early adult life. I do not take my position at the helm of Game Freaks 365 lightly. It is a full-time job that requires a full-time commitment. However, moving on to serve the public as a teacher is the right thing for me to do at this time.

In the coming weeks you should not notice any major changes. I’ll still be here as we begin a transition to new leadership. I promise that the site will be handed over to someone that is honest, capable and devoted to the job. Under fresh leadership and an upcoming site redesign, Game Freaks 365 will continue to be the best independent gaming site out there.

Thank you for all of the memories. 🙂
